Merry H. Balson focuses her practice on estate planning, charitable giving, trust and estate administration and on representing and advising nonprofit and tax­ exempt organizations. Ms. Balson received her B.A. in political science from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas (magna cum laude) in 1991, and her J. D. from the University of Denver College of Law (Order of St. Ives) in 1997.

Ms. Balson is an active member of the Trust and Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association, having served as a member of the Statutory Revisions Committee (Chair, 2004­-2005; Co­Chair, 2003­-2004), and as a past member of the Section's Executive Council (2006­-2008). She is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and a member of its Charitable Planning and Exempt Organization Committee. She is also a member of the Exempt Organizations Committees of the Tax and Real Property Probate and Trust Sections of the American Bar Association.

She has authored the "Uniform Transfers to Minors Act" chapter of the Gifts to Minors Monograph (CLE in Colo., Inc.) and co­-authored the "Organizational Form" chapter of A Guide for Colorado Nonprofit Organizations (CLE in Colo., Inc.), the "Nonprofit Organizations" chapter of the Practitioner's Guide to Colorado Business Organizations (CLE in Colo., Inc.), and the "Principles of Wills" chapter of the Colorado Estate Planning Handbook (CLE in Colorado, Inc.). Ms. Balson is a member of the American and Colorado Bar Associations, and a member of the Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable, the Colorado Philanthropic Advisors Network and the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council.
